September 30, 2024
The latest edition of the Non-GMO Market Report, published in collaboration between the ENGA, Donau Soja and ProTerra Foundation, on September 4th, 2024, provides key insights into the supply and demand trends for non-GMO soy, maize, and rapeseed across the EU for the 2024/25 marketing year. Key developments include:
- Non-GMO Soy: Despite an 8% increase in the planted area, EU soy output for 2024 is projected to see only marginal growth due to hot and dry weather. Brazil is still a major player in supply security, but by 2024, shipments to the EU are expected to account for only 1.5 million tons.
- Non-GMO Maize: The EU maize crop is forecast to decline by 1.7% due to unfavourable weather conditions. Despite this, there is still a large supply of non-GMO maize; in the EU, non-GMO maize accounts for over 99% of total production.
- Non-GMO Rapeseed: Due to weather damage, EU rapeseed output is predicted to decrease by 8.7% in 2024. Rapeseed prices are steady, and there are no signs of any supply problems in the forecast. Check the full report and learn more about the implications of these trends on the market, price volatility, and the global context for non-GMO crops, highlighting the EU’s role as a major player in this sector.
